'Saanjh' is a Pahari (Dogri) feature film about Sanju, a 16-year-old girl who lives in Chandigarh with her parents. Due to an unexpected tragedy in the family, her father, Shamsher Thakur, decides to leave her with her grand mother, in a remote village in Himachal Pradesh. Sanju is born and brought up in Chandigarh, a metro city in northern India, so living in a village is more like a punishment for her. Sanju's grandmother who lives by herself in the remote village, always wanted a grandson, but her son Sahmsher and his wife Meera, decided to go with a single child. Not finding the love and care of her grandmother, Sanju felt isolated in this remote village, and wanted to leave the place as soon as possible. During her loneliness she finds Jonga as her companion in village. Jonga is a mentally challenged boy who lives with her grandmother. Sanju doesn't want to live in the village so she tries to figure the ways to get out of there. But that is most difficult task for her. As Sanju spends more and more time at village the differences between Sanju and her grandmother reduces gradually. When Sanju feels the loneliness of old age people living in the village, she also realizes how lonely her grandmother will be. This brings Sanju more close to her grandmother and so their relation grows stronger. They now begin to enjoy their time together. But their togetherness may catch the evil eyes and happiness doesn't stay with them any longer. The Saanjh (an evening) of their life has captured them in between of light and darkness and it remains with them forever.
